Grud on a greenstick, this quest is boring, tedious and a grindslog. Especially since tehre are multiple shaman doing the same quest.

The Young Storm Dragons seem to be the best for these - they were dropping 8 Mistrals instead of the 1-2 from the elementals.

Beware of enemy players Thunderstorming you off the edge. Also try it out yourself some time, it's absolutely hilarious. Made me not turn in the quest for a while just so I could go back and do that.

This quest is the worst, and there is no real way to "cheese" it through. The only way to really make it faster is to just ask in general and group up with a couple of others doing it. Or tag the mobs other players from your faction tags as well.

Go to the platform where Thunderaan is and then jump north off it (through Thunderaan), then go north to where a storm dragon is standing. That guy respawns rapidly and there are several flying around there. These guys drop 5-10 essence each and are by far the quickest way of finishing this quest.

You can't use the Cataclysm dungeon version of the Vortex Pinnacle to complete the quest. You have to go through the portal in the Maelstrom and kill those mobs.

This is absolutely ridiculous. There's never anything for me to kill in this place because there are 10-15 other shamans running around. Looks like I'll just be waiting on this quest, and my shaman, for a few months until most people have finished.

I went from level 103 getting things to drop to, somehow, level 147........

In case you're dumb like me: after you finished the first quest to take you here, you probably avoided the slipstream at the end of this section. DON'T. It takes you to another section containing Thunderaan and quite a few more mobs! There were 4-5 shaman hogging most of the quest mobs in the first section, but ZERO in the second section.

Use portal from classhall (coordinates are 26.7 41.3) to enter quest zone. There are several kinds of mobs, which drop diffirent amount of essenses.

Lesser and medium elementals drop 1 essence.
Armored mistrals drop 1-3 essences.
Storm drakes drop 4-10 essences, best ones to farm.

The third platform is also teeming with mobs, but for some reason there's no way to get there in this version of the dungeon...

Unlike the real Vortex Pinnacle, when you fall/jump off, nothing comes to safely whisk you away to the beginning of the instance. You'll fall and die.

Mistral Essence

Collect 100 Mistral Essences from wind elementals in Vortex Pinnacle. Travel to the Vortex Pinnacle through the portal in the Heart of Azeroth.

Description

To restore the Maelstrom Pillar, we will need to infuse it with the essence of air.

A large quantity of Mistral Essence will be required to do this.

Mistral Essence can be found on many of the elementals in Vortex Pinnacle.

If you can return to me with a ready supply of elemental essence, I will be able to continue my restoration work on the Maelstrom Pillar.
