no to player housing .. such a stupid system, we already have garrisons and look how wod is regarded as the worst xpac no thanks
Personally I have 0 interest in housing but if they can develop it without affecting regular content then they should definitely give it a try. But if regular content suffers because of it (like it did because of Garrisons in WoD) then they shouldn't even think about trying it, WoW is fine for what it is so don't ruin it with unnecessary systems.
Just want to clarify there isn't a housing shortage in FFXIV because there are optional ways to get player houses. Affordable apartments for non-FC (guild) members and FC members alike. The single houses are a money sink, like the long neck mount in WoW. Unlike ESO, all of the player housing is available in game and only purchasable with in-game currency.
since it isn't covered in the article, here's how it is in genshin ~we have a teapot which can be decorated with furnishings found over the world, from quests and eventsthere are weekly character development activities (its sometimes dubbed waifu incubator xd) but nothing too significant and no commodities like crafting table (ok there is a campfire and good riddance)ppl can visit each other to buy randomized items from a weekend vendor and... that's itin wow we had the polar opposite model - zero creativity but with your very own SW (auction house, bank, prof buildings, tmog, flight master, heck even portals)and it sucked because wow is a fantasy game, not simsbut both models have their proswow's wasn't that bad but rather there were no wqs yet to make the world outside cooland no real indoor activities aside the command tableand zero customizationand in genshin, once you decorate you mostly collect adeptal energy (currency)so... yes. xd but really, single player housing can be quite fine
Please do not copy eso or ff14, both are terribly systems.
Club Penguin is the gold standard of MMO housing.
RuneScape. RuneScape player housing is really fun, they should combine that with skyrim in the sense that you choose where your house is and then design the interior. You could even have multiple houses.
Why? What is the purpose of player housing? It does absolutely nothing for the game IMO
Other Player Housing Options to take from:Star Wars: The Old Republic Strongholds SystemPros:Multiple Rooms made available to unlock for the Player Character.Accountwide Gear System allowing Players to send stuff through an Account Storage System that isn't Soulbound as an alternative to Mailbox.A Multitude of Decorations that can be awarded through Zone Drops, Purchases, Holiday Events, Anniversaries, Dungeon Rewards, and Crafting.Collected Pets and Mounts can be put on-display as Decorations in your Stronghold.Cons:Decoration Placement is generally limited.Strongholds are Instanced, meaning that they aren't a part of the base world that you could just walk up to from anywhere.A Small number of Strongholds are made available and can only be visited by other players from Kiosks in Faction-controlled areas.Requires massive cash purchasing to unlock additional Rooms in a Stronghold.Decorations are largely non-interactable (IE: You cannot sit in a Chair or sleep in a Bed).Fallout 4 Settlement SystemPros:Can instantly build whatever structure you want in your Settlement: From making a House to creating a Tower and Castle.A Built-in Crafting System allows Players to create whatever Decoration you've already unlocked. With certain Perks allowing you to break down items to get more Resources to build stuff with.Players can create Mannequins, Racks, and Cases to Display their favorite collected Weapons, Armor, Power Armor, and Taxidermied monsters they have killed.Crafting System isn't tied into using money and is instead based on material resources that are stored inside of your Workshop.Players can assign NPCs in their Settlement to setup trade-lines to other Settlements in order to have them pool their resources for other construction projects.Players can build Crafting Tables for specialized equipment, food, gear, weapons, and consumables to use in the Game.Cons:The space in a Settlement is generally limited and cannot be expanded upon. The Settlement can come under attack by Enemies who will have a chance at either stealing your resources depending on whether or not you're there even if you have a potent defense system in-place for dealing with scripted attacks. There's a limitation on what can be removed from a settlement or even fixed up (IE: you are unable to clean up scattered leaves or roots on the ground or fix up broken concrete roads or even repair Sanctuary Hills' downed wooden bridge without help of specialized Mods.)Good ol' fashioned NPC Scripting from Bethesda can have your Settlements be "untraversable" for them (IE: half of Hangmans' Alley will have 0 NPCs' go to that location.)Certain Decorations are tied in to collecting Skillbook Magazines or unlocking Character Perks (IE: You cannot create lawn decorations or patio furniture unless you get the Picket Fences Magazines, or create any Workbenches in your Settlements unless you have the Rank 2 Local Leader Perk: which requires you to have 6 Charisma and be Level 14.)
What about a castle system like Wizard101?
Teso Shop is awesome and this is exactly what we need in WoW but not with those demonic costs they LITERALLY rob from players...like a lamp irl costs less than a ^&*!ing lamp in a TESO.
Honestly, given the age of the game engine, realistically speaking, SWTOR's player housing seems the best option. Instanced, utilizes a hook system similar to garrisons so less building from the ground up of new systems nor as resource heavy on servers. Not saying it's the most ideal or that it'd check all the boxes for everyone, just that theirs had a good implementation and would serve as a solid basic compromise between expectations and limitations.
